What is Reflective Heat Transfer Vinyl?

All heat transfer vinyl is made up of a top layer (positioning film), an intermediate layer, a hot melt adhesive layer, and a paper release layer. The intermediate layer of reflective heat transfer vinyl is glass beads, which are embedded in the hot melt adhesive to give it its reflective properties.

How to Use Iron On Reflective Vinyl Roll

When you first look at the reflective heat transfer HTV film sheet, it looks a bit like holographic vinyl on the glowing side, but when you pull the carrier sheet backward, it loses its holographic look. The adhesive side is a darker frosted gray; this is the side where you can cut the design.

In most cases, reflective heat transfer vinyl is virtually identical to most heat transfer vinyl.

Mirror Design and Cutting

First, open the design in the cutter software. I’m using my beloved Silhouette Cameo 3 and Silhouette Studio software.

Once you open the design, scale it to the desired size, and then mirror the design. You will need to mirror the design because you will be putting on the back of the heat transfer vinyl and will flip it back the other way when you apply it to the shirt.

Next, adjust your cut settings and send it to your machine to be cut. For this reflective heat transfer vinyl, use settings for blade depth 2, speed 7, and force 5 and they work very well. (Cutting parameters are for reference only, we suggest you test them yourself)

Weed and Apply The Vinyl

Once the design is cut, use a weed hook to remove excess vinyl around the design. Next, iron your shirt to remove wrinkles and warm it up. Then, place the design on the front of the shirt. Cover it with multi-purpose paper, cotton fabric, or parchment paper. Set the iron to the cotton setting and apply heat and light pressure for about 15-20 seconds to ensure coverage of the entire design. Finally, cool the carrier sheet for a few seconds before removing it.

That’s it! Your new reflective design is all done and ready for wearing and shining.

Digital Reflective Heat Transfer Film Transfer Process

1. Make high-resolution images;
2. Through the heat transfer printer, the pattern is printed on the hot transfer paper for hundreds of meters an hour.
3. Use the heat transfer machine and other ordinary machines to print the pattern to the goods. The operation is simple and the pattern is formed in one time without the need of color.

A heat press can print thousands of goods in 8 hours a day.

Large batch reflective heat transfer process:

1. Make high-resolution images;
2. According to the picture size produced by dot gravure electric engraving;
3. Intaglio is installed on the printing machine and printed on the PET polyester film, which is printed into a hot transfer film, and can print thousands of meters of the finished product in one hour;
4. The heat transfer printing film is installed on the hot transfer printing press for printing. The operation is simple and the pattern is formed in one time without the need of color.

A heat transfer printing machine can print more than ten thousand products a day, 8 hours a day.
